'Concern' as theme park enters liquidation

Brean Theme Park has ceased operations

A popular theme park which was open for decades has ceased trading.

Brean Theme Park in Somerset appointed liquidators last week, meaning the company has to stop trading unless it is required for the "winding-up process".

The family‑run park has operated as a camping and leisure site on Coast Road in the village of Brean since the 1940s, adding rides in the 1970s. By 2025, the site had more than 40 rides and opened seasonally from March to October.

But a spokesperson for the attraction's liquidators said the site had experienced "significant financial challenges" amid reduced visitor numbers following the Covid-19 pandemic.

Nicholas Stafford, from liquidator Hazlewoods, said: "The company traded throughout the peak summer season of 2025, however revenue generated over that time was insufficient to enable the company to sustain operations through the park's usual winter closure."

He also said the site had been affected by a nearby holiday park being used to house Hinkley Point C workers, rather than tourists.

In response, a spokesperson for Hinkley Point C said they were "sorry to hear" of the financial difficulties faced by the theme park.

They said they had created 80 jobs in the area, as well as providing funds to support the community and local businesses.

Gready said he was concerned the news would have a knock-on effect in the area

Simon Gready, who volunteers at Burnham Tourist Information centre near Brean Sands, said he was concerned the news would impact the local economy.

"It's a shame because it's going to be less of an offering in this area now for when people come to visit.

"It's going to have an effect on the local economy, people aren't going to be spending as much money," he added.

Unity Holidays, which owns the site the theme park is on, said its caravan park continued to operate as normal and Brean Play, Brean Splash and Brean Gym would reopen as planned for the 2026 season.
